Sustainability

Saba Plaça d'Europa, Platja d'Aro

ESG

The organization as a whole participates and collaborates, as far as possible, in implementation of the established culture of sustainability. Saba’s way of working is a shared project of commitment, translated into customer support, involvement and responsibility with the territories in which it operates, as an active player in the progress of cities.

All this, together with the brand identity and social and ethical aspects, comprise Saba’s differentiating elements. The integration and consolidation of sustainability in the business strengthens transparency and proper management of stakeholders. Indeed, the company’s sustainability strategy road map is aligned with GRI standards.

In Saba this is all channelled through an Integrated Management System (IMS), based on process management and focused on continuous organizational improvement. Thanks to the IMS, and always respecting current legislation, Saba integrates ISO 9001 (Quality) and ISO 45001 (Health and Safety), building solid foundations for CSR.

These bases elevate sustainability as an inherent factor in decision-making, with ISO 14001 (Environment) and ISO 50001 (Energy efficiency) certification.

Finally, Saba integrates ISO 27001 (Information security) into its Management System with the aim of maintaining service continuity for all stakeholders in a secure, efficient manner.

Environment

Saba identifies the environmental aspects deriving from its activity, by performing a thorough analysis on its process map, and measures their impacts through calculation of the carbon footprint according to internationally recognized standards and verifies that calculation by means of a qualified third party.

This exercise allows more appropriate targets to be outlined and actions to help combat climate change to be implemented. In this regard, Saba integrates this point as a part of its business strategy, with the promotion of initiatives that contribute to advancing the ecological transition and leading towards a low-carbon economy.

Saba promotes and implements a variety of actions to achieve a direct impact on savings in electricity consumption. These actions are already deployed in Spain, Italy, Portugal and Chile and work is under way to extend them to the other countries in the short term. Facilities design needs to be added to all these measures, taking into account improvements that affect energy behaviour, consumption savings and climate change: the promotion of electric vehicles and the company’s firm commitment to sustainable urban distribution of goods.

The company has a consumption control and management system that enables real-time monitoring of its facilities (consumption, power, intensity), recording of the energy consumed in each car park, as well as recording of consumption trends and the subsequent analysis of deviations to decide on corrective measures. Implemented in Spain, Italy, Portugal and Chile, it will be extended to the rest of the Group’s countries in the coming years.

Carbon footprint

With the aim of understanding its environmental impact and to involve its stakeholders, Saba calculates and verifies the carbon footprint of its activity each year by organizing the sources (consumption) into scopes, based on the degree of impact that the activity can have on these. The carbon footprint has been calculated since 2011 and verified since 2016. By 2022, Saba has achieved a 16% reduction in COemissions compared to the previous year.
